How can I deal with an extremely negative co-worker when we share a small office?

Shame on your boss for the lack of leadership. I would have a confidential conversation with the boss and let him/her know that this person's attitude is making work life very difficult and ask for his/her istance in creating a better work environment for the good of everyone as well as the company.
